Louis Grucza, Sr. Obituary

Louis Andrew Grucza Sr. was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on September 26, 1933, to parents Louis F. Grucza and Helen (Chernek) Grucza. After over nine decades of devotion to his family, he passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29th.

A 1950 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School, Louis met his wife and dance partner for life Theresa Marie (Oleksiak) Grucza, who precedes him in heaven, at the Polish Falcons Club in Erie. They were married on October 1, 1955, and would have celebrated 69 years of devoted marriage this year.

Louis, known as “Sonny” to good friends and family, enjoyed sports and was a pitcher at Cathedral Prep. He then served in the U.S. Army for two years, spending a tour in Germany. Upon his return he started his career at General Electric as an Accountant and was blessed with three sons Louis Jr., Daniel, and David.

The Grucza family, who later relocated to Alabama, were dedicated members of the Catholic Church. The family, with Louis at its head, was known wherever they lived for their devotion and stewardship. He also rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his favorite sports teams, the New York Yankees, Auburn Tigers, Penn State Nittany Lions and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

After 42 years, Lou retired from General Electric. Louis and Theresa moved back to Alabama and then Georgia to be near family.

It is impossible to summarize all that Louis was, but he will be remembered most for his dedication to ensuring the success of his family. His candor, hard work, and discipline built a strong foundation for generations to come.

A proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Louis is survived by his children: Louis Jr. Grucza, Daniel (Melanie) Grucza, and David (Carey) Grucza.

His grandchildren: Eryn (Carlos) Viscarra, Andrew Grucza, Bryan (Narineh) Grucza, Sarah (Sandor) Grucza, Rachel Grucza, and Noah Grucza.

As well as his five great grandchildren: Emilia Viscarra, Elena Viscarra, Erica Viscarra, Xander Grucza, and Caris Grucza.

Louis is preceded in death by both his parents and his brother Leonard “Lenny” Grucza, whose wife Elaine Grucza survives him.

The family hopes that all who miss Louis will find solace in knowing he is now among the angels and reunited with Theresa, his parents, and brother.
