Lois Williams Obituary

Lois Jones Williams, age 93, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. She was born May 26, 1913 in Pickens County, Georgia to the late James Byrd Jones and Mary Pearl Jones. She attended Young Harris College and the University of Georgia and received a BS Degree in Elementary Education. For twenty-seven years she taught school in the elementary grades before retiring in 1973. She taught 14 years in the Greene County School System as well as in Gwinnett and Pickens counties. Lois was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro where she was a member of the Fidelis and Agape classes. She taught in the Children''s division, sang in the choir and was a member of the Golden Tones.

She cherished most her opportunities over many years to have had the pleasure of guiding and molding the character of hundreds of young children under her supervision.

During her retirement she and her husband Loyd had the pleasure of traveling extensively in the United States and several foreign countries. They also spent many winters in Florida. However, she always looked forward to returning to her lovely home and friends in Greensboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd J. Williams, in January of this year. She is survived by two sons, James David Williams, M.D. of Dunwoody, GA and Thomas Johnson Williams of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren, Cathy Williams of La Paz, Bolivia, Jim Williams of Homer, AK, Audrey Hancock of Cuetzalen, Mexico; Amy Hufham of Montgomery, AL and Beth Backus, Johnson City, TN; eleven great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Greensboro with Cliff Graham and Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. Interment will be at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Grayson, GA at 3:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers are Larry Eley, Charles Copelan, Charlton Veazey, Quenton Hadden, Cotton Boswell and Bill Adams.
