Lisa Jane Simmons Wheeler, an award winning nature photographer, artist, and gardener, died on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the age of 65. She was a resident of Greene County Georgia.
Born on June 28, 1960, in Atlanta, Lisa was the daughter of the late Frank Leon Simmons and Nancy Schaller Simmons. She grew up and attended school in Atlanta taking classes at Chastain Park, Callanwolde, and the Art Institute of Atlanta. On February 15, 1997, she married Lewis Wheeler in Greensboro, where they made their life together on a small cattle ranch. She was an active member of the Madison Artists Guild and both the Greensboro Garden Club and the Garden Club of Georgia where she served as the Historian and Archivist among many other duties.
She is survived by her husband of twenty eight years, Lewis Wheeler of Greensboro, Georgia, her sister Julie Simmons of North Carolina, her brother and sister-in-law Joel and Jean Simmons of Atlanta, her nephew Schaller Simmons of Atlanta, and Cookie.
Visitation will take place one hour before the Memorial Service, which is scheduled for January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the McCommons Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Hugh Hendrickson. A reception will immediately follow at 2410 Madison Hwy., Greensboro, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lisa's name may be made to the Madison Artists Guild in Madison Georgia.
