Lewis Edwin “Skip” Varnado, age 75, of Greensboro, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at his home with his family. Skip was born in Wiggins, MS on August 8, 1948, to the late Willard and Edith Mitchell Varnado. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps while stationed at Camp Lejuene and also spent two tours in Vietnam receiving the purple heart and an honorable discharge as a Corporal E-4 in 1971. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Mississippi University in Hattiesburg, MS in 1980. On March 11, 1982, he married Trisha Goodman in Gulfport, MS. He had a successful forty-year career with Southern Company Services as their Construction Engineer Manager retiring in April of 2019. Skip lived in Vail, AZ, Cumming, GA, Roswell, GA and Gulfport, MS before moving to Greensboro, GA. While living in Roswell, GA he was a member and deacon at Roswell First Baptist Church. More recently he was attending Johns Creek Baptist Church. He was a trap shooter and served as GA State treasurer for Georgia Trap Association.
In addition to his wife, Trisha Varnado of Greensboro, GA, Skip is survived by his sons, Joshua Varnado and wife Candice and their children Luke Varnado and John Maskew of Tucson, AZ and Matthew Varnado and wife Emily and their children, Matthew Varnado and Hardin Varnado of Roswell, GA; sister, Gloria Williams and husband Henry of Starkville, MS. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Varnado Surratt and brother, Willard Varnado.
The family will hold a Celebration of Skip’s life on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at The Chapel at Roswell First Baptist Church, 710 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell, GA 30075.
