Leslie Lanier Cowart, age 71, of Madison, Georgia died Friday, November 15, 2019 at Morgan Medical Center in Madison, Georgia. A native of Miami, Florida and born December 17, 1947, he was the son of the late John Moses and Lucille Patrick Cowart. He graduated from Belle Glade High School in Belle Glade, FL and attended Asbury University in Willmore, KY. He married the former Carol Crisler on February 26, 1972. He returned to Madison in 2018 after living in Kentucky close to his daughter. He served as pastor of many churches in the North Georgia and South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Before retiring he was serving as pastor at the United Methodist Churches in Union Point, Siloam and White Plains. His many interests included photography, music and singing. He was a family man who doted on his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Carol Cowart of Madison, GA; daughter, Elizabeth Tingle of Madison, GA; grandchildren: Patrick, Caroline, Kaedence and Matthew Tingle; brother, Wayne Cowart of Portland, ME; niece, Cayce James; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, John Charles Addison Cowart.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Bostwick United Methodist Church, 5741 Bostwick Road, Bostwick, GA 30623 with Rev. Doug Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Bostwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Peace, Eli Peace, Butch Malcom, Ronnie Maxwell, David Nunn and Dennis Blais.
