Leroy Wright

           Leroy Wright, age 82 of Greensboro, GA, passed away Thursday August 10, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA.  He was born October 7, 1940 in Cherokee, AL to the late Thomas Clyde Wright and Annie Jewel Creel Wright.  In 1958 he was a graduate of Sheffield High School in Sheffield, AL.  On November 12, 1960 he married the former Elizabeth Katherine Thomas and at the time of his death they had been married nearly sixty-three years.  He had a storied career in the professional video industry working for both Panasonic and Sony.  He retired in 1998 from Sony as its Southeast Regional Vice President. He was admired and respected by his industry peers, coworkers, and competitors.  He was a four-time recipient of Sony’s prestigious Samurai sales award and in 1994, he was recognized with Sony’s highest honor, the Shogun award. Moving to Lake Oconee in 1993 from Alpharetta he spent much of his time hunting and fishing in the area.  He was a lifetime music fan and a faithful member of the Lake Oconee Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder.  
            Leroy is survived by his wife, Kathy Wright of Greensboro, GA; son, Michael Shane Wright of Sheffield, AL; daughter, Cynthia Leigh Wright of Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Shirley Clanton and husband George of Columbia, TN; grandchildren, Jeffrey Wright (Shelby), Garrett Wright, Grayson Wright and Jackson Wright (Sarabeth); great grandchildren, Elijah Wright and Elliana Wright.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Clyde “Tommy” Wright, Jr. and sister, Frances Bailey.
             Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Oconee Church of Christ, 4700 Carey Station Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with his son, Michael and Ministers Perry Sims and Chuck Ramseur serving.  Graveside Services with close family will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, GA with Minister Bobby Wood serving.  Serving as pallbearers are Leroy’s son, Michael, grandchildren Jeffrey, Garrett, Grayson, and Jackson and family friend Brad Martin.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at the church.  The family requests no flowers but any memorials be made to Lake Oconee Church of Christ, 4700 Carey Station Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.
