Lavera Carlan Akins, 82, a lifelong resident of Greene County died Friday, January 10, 2003 at Eatonton Health Care Center. Born June 7, 1920 in Greene County, she was the daughter of the late Elsie L. Carlan and Gertrude Dominy Carlan. She attended Penfield School as a child and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro. She was a retired spinner from Mary-Leila Cotton Mill in Greensboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse E. Akins in 1991. She is survived by two daughters, Diane Taylor of Loganville, GA and Nancy Watkins and husband Ed of Watkinsville, GA; a grandson, Tim Taylor Jr. of Loganville, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Jimmy A. Long and Rev. June Akins Franck officiating. Interment will follow at Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers are Bobby Durham, Mell Marchman Jr., Ray Marchman, Bob Beeland, Rick Ward, Bobby Voyles and Alvin Dowdy. Honorary pallbearers are Garnett Akins, Ed Watkins, Tim Taylor Jr. and Byron Akins. The family will receive friends Monday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
