Larry Smith

Larry Smith, beloved husband, father, son, and friend passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.  Larry was a man of great strength and purpose and a “never quit” attitude. Larry’s winning spirit combined with his soft-spoken, kindhearted nature touched every endeavor he undertook and everyone he loved. In 1967 Larry graduated from Greene County High School where he distinguished himself on the gridiron with true grit and hustle. After graduation he attended the University of Georgia and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. 

Born to loving parents, Weldon and Marjorie Smith on December 19, 1948, in his youth he developed a passion for golf. Quite the competitor, he won many tournaments at Greene County Country Club where he served many years on the Board of Directors and as Club President. 

He channeled his love of community into his early banking and insurance agency careers.  In his pursuit to further improve the lives of his fellow citizens, Larry served multiple terms on the Greensboro City Council and in the Rotary Club.  One of his greatest joys was working with his son Bo at Larry’s beloved Drag Strip Farm.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Donna; sons, Brad (Karen) and Bo (Missy); grandchildren, Sam, Leah, Bentley, Grayson, Miller, and Willow; brother Cliff (Bernie) and sister, Cecily (John).  His constant companion in recent years was his furry friend, his dog Benjie. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Isabella "Bella" Smith. 

Larry’s family will hold a service in celebration of his life at Greensboro First Methodist Church (North Campus), 202 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.  A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
