Kenneth "Kenney" Toole Obituary

Graveside services and burial were performed for Kenneth “Kenney” Pierce Toole, age 64, of Cocoa, Florida, at 10 AM Wednesday, June 24, at Bethesda Baptist Church, near Union Point, Georgia.   Officiating was Rev. Lem Clark, a former pastor of the church and very distant Toole cousin.  McCommons Funeral Home of Greensboro, Georgia, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Toole was born in Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia, December 7, 1955, the youngest of three children.  Their mother, Lena Mae Durham, a native of Woodville, Greene County, Georgia, died in 1969.  Their father, P.C. (Pierce Columbus) Toole, died in 2003.  Their mother, her parents, Bessie Mae Edmonds and John Calvin Durham and all of their eight children and numerous cousins are buried at Bethesda.

The family moved to Brevard County, Florida, for their father known as “P. C” to work as an engineer in the space program.  The family moved into a new house at 1607 Calvodas(Calvados) Drive in the Clear Lake Terrace Subdivision north of Cocoa on his second birthday. His mother was known for maintaining the best landscaped yard on their street.  Kenny graduated from Cocoa High School about 1974 and worked very briefly as a welder.  Mr. Toole became disabled due to health issues and chose to live as an adult dependent child.  About 1995-1996 Mr. Toole became unable to maintain the old family residence and began staying with his widowed father at 300 Lutz Street in the Port St. John’s area north of Cocoa and south of Titusville.  Mr. Toole later moved to the 360 Lutz Street location.  Any further details about Mr. Toole’s life accomplishments, possible employment, outside interests, last illness and death are very sketchy.  Infrequent trips were made to the Durhamtown area and infrequent contacts were made with a few cousins.

Mr. Toole was reported as being found dead Wednesday morning May 27 at 360 Lutz Street.  The notification was made to a cousin who had not heard from the deceased for a number of months.  Information obtained from the Brevard County Sheriff’s office listed numerous recent medical emergency calls to his residence and included notations that he was in need of supervision.  Information was obtained that Mr. Toole’s remains were removed from the residence to refrigerated storage at a funeral facility in Melbourne, Florida.  The establishment did not release the remains for transport to McCommons Funeral Home until Thursday, June 18.

Mr. Toole never married and had no children.  Surviving next-of-kin are as follows. His older twin sisters, Vivian Leigh Toole (Dan B.) Cates, Alto, Texas and Vera Eileen Toole Damron, Gainesville, Florida.  One niece, Lena Susann Damron, Gainesville, Florida; two nephews, Daniel T. (Heather W.) Cates, La Marque, Texas, and David B. (Leigh W.), Santa Fe, Texas.  One great nephew, Luke David Cates, Santa Fe, Texas.  Eight living maternal first cousins are  Robert “Douglas” (Vickie) Durham, Moultrie, Georgia;  Melvin, Carroll, and Melba Durham, Durhamtown Community, Union Point, Georgia;  Elise Wilson Carson Patterson and Sherley Wilson (Charles) Selman, Union Point, Georgia; Steve (Carolyn) Durham, Greenwood, South Carolina; Calvin Durham, Deland, Florida.  Two living paternal first cousins are Gerald “Jerry” Michael  Toole of Silsbee, Texas,  Patricia “Pattie” Toole (Frederick W. Jr.“Rick”) Garnett of Fayetteville, North Carolina.  Numerous cousins in later generations also survive.

Any memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery Fund,  P. O. Box 302, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669.  Condolences may be expressed at www.mccommonsfuneralhome.com to sign the online guest register.
