Kenneth Wayne Hammond of Greensboro, GA passed away, Sunday, December 6, 2020 at The Glen at Lake Oconee Village in Greensboro. Born in Newnan, GA on February 5, 1941 he was one of three sons of the late Curtis Milton Hammond and Martha Raye Jones Hammond. He graduated from Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC where he studied mechanics. Kenneth proudly made a career in the United States Coast Guard retiring as Chief Warrant Officer 2 after twenty-one years. After retirement he continued to be a mechanic fixing and restoring old cars. On November 22, 1991 he married Meryl Laura Sorensen in Charleston, SC and in 1998 they moved to Greensboro, GA where in addition to restoring cars he enjoyed fishing and boating.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Lynn Hammond of Mount Pleasant, SC and Kelly Hammond of Miami, FL; brother, Jim Hammond and his wife Sue Ellen; six grandchildren, Trey, Doug, Parker and Curtis Laurence and James and Caitlyn Hunt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Meryl Laura Hammond and a brother, Carey Hammond and his wife Betty.
The family will hold a private service to celebrate Kenneth’s life. Interment will be at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, GA 31061. The family requests that any memorials be made to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
