Karen White Obituary

Karen Lynn Golding White, age 66, of Greensboro, GA and Reynolds Landing Community died Wednesday August 19, 2009 at her residence. She had fought a battle against the effects of a brain aneurysm for almost a year. Born in Medford, Oregon on February 5, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Golding and Dorothy Rose Pittenger Golding. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Oregon State University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, a loving group of support sisters who kept with her through the years.

She met her husband, Steve, while living in Annapolis, MD in her first year of teaching. While Steve was in the Navy, they lived for three years in Yokohama, Japan where she taught in the Department of Defense school system. Upon returning to the states they lived in Coral Springs, FL and she taught fifth grade in Plantation, FL. In 1978 she moved to Deer Run Community of South Rockdale County where they lived for 22 years. At that time she "retired" from teaching and devoted her time to family and community and elevated her tennis game while playing in the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association and USTA. She was a dedicated mother and classified herself as the "Sheriff of Deer Run Drive", keeping an eye on her three children and their friends. In the Deer Run Community she was a social organizer and planned many dinner events and parties that are still discussed today.

In 2000 she and Steve moved to Lake Oconee and made new friends while becoming a part of the community there. In addition to her husband, Steven J. White, she is survived by her two sons, Christopher White and wife Lisa of Covington, GA and Mark White and wife Wendy of Richmond, VA and daughter Carrie White of Brooklyn, NY. Additionally she adored her three grandchildren, Keller age 6; Elliot, almost 6, and Harper, 10 months. In Oregon she is survived by an uncle, Dr. Robert Pittenger and wife Alice of McMinneville and numerous cousins that for many years were like siblings plus a host of friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday August 22, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, 117 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA at 11:00 a.m., Pastor James Choomack and Rev. Melissa Hamlin officiating. A reception for friends will be at the church at 10:00 a.m. and a celebration of life will be held after the service at the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge, 1116 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA, 706-991-1499, in the Sears Shopping Center just west of the Hwy 44 bridge.
