Joseph "Joe" Taylor Obituary

Joseph Brian Taylor, a resident of Greensboro, GA, passed away on January 24, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA.  Born on August 5, 1943, in Decatur, Il.  Joseph was the son of the late Orville and Dorothy Hood Taylor.  He was a graduate of MacArthur High School, Southern Illinois University and later earned his doctorate of law with honors from the University of Wyoming.  He had a distinguished career as a partner at Taylor and Lynch Attorneys at Law.  Joe loved his family and enjoyed golfing, hunting, and spending time in nature.

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda of 60 years; daughter, Shannon (William) Keirse, sons, Robb Brian Taylor; and Lance (Becky) Taylor, and grandchildren Madison, Cole, Olivia, Makayla, Lily, Ryder, and Georgia.  They were members of the Tabernacle Church of Normal, Illinois.

Joe loved his community and served on the Clinton YMCA board of directors for over 10 years, served on the Board of Directors of the DeWitt Savings Bank for 30 years.  Was a member of Rotary for 53 years, was president in 1976 and Rotarian of the Year in 2003. 

Joe organized the first traveling softball team in central Illinois and was awarded a citation as a founder of the Central Illinois Girls Softball League in 1995. After coaching the Central Illinois Girls softball team in Decatur, which went to the National Championship and played against the USA Olympic team.  Joe retired from coaching softball and resurrected the American Legion Baseball Program in Clinton, Illinois. 

In 2002, Joe was the recipient of an award in appreciation for his dedication and loyalty to the Clinton Community and High School in the building of the Clinton Varsity baseball and softball diamonds which are still being used today.

Donations may be made to Clinton YMCA or The Tab church, Normal, Illinois.  A “Celebration of Joe’s Life” will be held in the Spring.
