Joseph Lewis "Joe" Vaughn

Joseph Lewis “Joe” Vaughn of the Macedonia Community in Oglethorpe County, died Monday, January 13, 2014 at the age of 85.  Born in Maxeys, GA in Oglethorpe County on February 20, 1928, Joe was the son of the late Joseph Lee Vaughn and Kate Smith Vaughn.  He attended school in Maxeys and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. On March 15, 1952, he married Mattie Jo Bradford of Elberton, GA.  For a number of years, he owned and operated Joseph L. Vaughn Garage in Union Point, GA. Joe was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for many years.  He enjoyed gardening and farming.

In addition to his wife, Mattie Jo Vaughn who predeceased him on July 31, 2008, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Vaughn; and a brother John D. “Jack” Vaughn.  Joe is survived by a daughter Beverly Vaughn Sines of the Macedonia Community; a son Brian Vaughn of Union Point, GA; brother, James R. “Bobby” Vaughn of the Macedonia Community;  three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Sorrow officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669.  Serving as pallbearers are: Brad Vaughn, Kevin Nichols, Byron Fleeman, Alan Fleeman, Jason Fleeman and Eric Fleeman.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.
