Joseph Barnes “Joe” O’Neal, age 79, of Gray, GA, died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Coliseum Medical Centers in Macon, GA. A native of Greene County he was born in Union Point, GA on July 26, 1931 to the late Walter Hill O’Neal and Edna Wray O’Neal. As a child he attended school in Union Point and graduated from Union Point High School in 1949 and went on to attend the Georgia Alabama Business School in Macon. For over thirty years he was a clerical worker for Warner Robins Air Force Base. For a number of years he was the caretaker for his aunt and uncle of Macon. Joe dedicated his life in doing good for his family which included spoiling his nieces and nephews. He also had a great love for animals of all kind. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union Point.
He is survived by two sisters, Fay O’Neal Knight of Gray, GA and Betty O’Neal Jordan of Siloam, GA; his nieces and nephew, Debbie Oxenrider, Joni Roberts, Jill McKinley and Chad Jordan; numerous great and great great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Callaway Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are Wil Gibson, Ridge Kelly, Dustin Higdon, Jonathan Clifton, Wayne Jordan and Alan McKinley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at Callaway Funeral Home.
