Joseph Cegala, Jr. Obituary

Joseph was born on May 28, 1928 in Buffalo, New York to Joseph and Mary (DeSio) Cegala.  He married his beautiful wife Beverly Ann Melick of 74 years on June 12, 1948 at All Saint’s Catholic Church in Buffalo, New York.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Josephine.  He leaves a brother Donald Cegala.

A loving and caring husband and father, Joseph raised four children.  They all survive: Deborah Canada, Candace (Michael) Winecoff, Joseph (Julie) Cegala and Nanette (David) Renzi.

Joseph was blessed with 12 grandchildren: Jennifer (Vince) Kassay, David (Tracey) Warner, Ashley (Justin) Marlow, Melanie (Derek) Dombroski, Drew (Danielle) Maher, Rebecca Harrison, Laura Kate (John David) Gettmann, Mallory (Caleb) Click, Cameron (Brian) Cegala, Tyler (Jasmine) Renzi,  Stephanie (Alex) Morris, Madaline (Matthew) Fowler, plus 5 Bonus Step-grandchildren – Andria O’nion, Erin (Greg) Orr, Andrea Kiser, Jessica (Joel) Harrison, Conner Gates.

He has 22 great grandchildren:  Lily, Jackson, Peyton, Ciara, Alex, Joshua, Hannah, John Marlin, Milly, Mary Reid, Mae, Caleb, Ivy, Riley, Ardyn, Pruett, Mary Neal, Alice, Lucy, Maggie, Olivia. Bonus step great grandchildren: Alex, Andrew, Chase, Ellie, Logan, Ella, Sawyer, Heidi and Oaklee.

Joe worked for NCR (National Cash Register) for 47 years and was transferred several times.  He started as an office boy in Buffalo and ended his career as a Regional Director of Field Engineering in the Indianapolis Region.

He was a lifetime member of the Tonawanda Sportsmen’s Club in the Buffalo area.  He served as club director and manager of the clubhouse and kitchen.

Joe and Bev moved to Zionsville, Indiana in 1979 and lived there until April of 2021 when they moved to Greensboro, Georgia to be closer to family.

Joe was a member of Saint Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Zionsville where he served on Parish Council, was an Extra Ordinary Eucharistic Minister, usher, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Joe was a fourth degree Knight and a past Grand Knight.  Joe managed the St. Al’s Lenten Fish Fry for many years.

Joe is a current member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday December 17, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Father Michael Silloway officiating; followed by a reception in the church’s Sacred Heart Social Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Joe’s name to the Knights of Columbus. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
