Johnnie Satterfield, Jr. Obituary

Johnnie "Pop" Satterfield, Jr., an 83-year-old lifelong resident of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Monday, July 6, 2026. Born to the late Rosa Mae McGinty Satterfield and Johnnie "Buck" Satterfield, Sr. on February 21, 1943, Johnnie grew up as a dedicated Boy Scout and later shared his leadership as a Scoutmaster. A 1961 graduate of Greensboro High School, he was recognized as a standout athlete in track, football, and basketball. Following his school years, he honorably served in the United States Army before embarking on a career with the Georgia Department of Transportation, where he worked as a Right of Way Agent until his retirement in 1993.

His passion for sports remained a constant throughout his life; for over 54 years, he served as the statistician for Greene County Tiger Football, a fixture on the sidelines through every season. An enthusiastic Georgia Bulldog fan and avid golfer, he also enjoyed reading and was deeply involved in his community as a member of the Jaycees, the Housing Authority Board, and a former County Commissioner. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, he served faithfully as both an elder and a deacon. Known affectionately as "Pop", he and his wife "Gran" were also known for the care they provided to many local children over the years.

He is survived by Jane Satterfield, his wife of 50 years; his children, Alison Goss, John (Susan) Satterfield, and Alan (Elizabeth) Satterfield; and his grandchildren, Mackenzie Satterfield, William Goss, Evan Satterfield, Sidney Satterfield, and Hailey Satterfield. Other survivors include his sisters, Ann Ivey and Judy (Ed) Nichols, along with a large extended family of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carolyn Durden.

Funeral services are scheduled for July 9, 2026, 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Meg Jackson Clark officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. that morning. Following the service, interment will take place at Greenview Cemetery, with Ray Copelan, Bill Thomas, Russell Brock, Jason Easley, William Goss, and Evan Satterfield serving as pallbearers.   Any memorials in memory of Johnnie may be donated to Georgia Hospice, ℅ The Carnation Fund, Attn: Kristy McLellan, P.
