John Melvin “Mell” Marchman, Jr., age 90, of Greensboro, Ga died Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Ga. Born in Greensboro, Ga on July 22, 1930, he was the son of the late John Melvin Marchman, Sr and Willie Aldene Hunter Marchman. He attended Greensboro High School and served in the United States Army Reserve for 13 years. When he was younger, he operated a poultry/egg farm along with his father for many years. After working for Universal Rundle and Hometown Manufacturing, he retired from the maintenance department of Port Armor Country Club after 17 years. During his retirement he enjoyed radio controlled air planes, but his greatest love was spending time with his family. Mell was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro where he served in numerous positions.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Marchman of Greensboro, Ga; daughter, Paula Marchman Herren (Ande) of Milledgeville, Ga; son, John Marchman lll of Greensboro, Ga; granddaughter, Taylor Herren (Brandon Popham) of Milledgeville, Ga; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Greensboro City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, Ga 30642 with Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the cemetery from 1:30 PM until time for the service. The family requests any memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 203 S.
