John Harrison “Johnny” Jackson Jr., age 82, of Greensboro, GA, died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Augusta. Born in Philomath, GA on October 19, 1922 he was the son of the late John Harrison Jackson Sr. and Laura Smith Jackson. As a child he lived in Union Point and attended Union Point Schools. At the age of 17 he joined the United States Navy where he spent six years from February 25, 1941, to February 25, 1947. He was on the USS New York in the first major land and sea invasion of North Africa at Casablanca. He was transferred to the USS Quincy which was the first ship to be fired on in the invasion of Normandy. During World War II he served his country throughout the Pacific Theater and European Theater. In his working career he was a Union Point Police Officer, then worked for Atlanta Washer Parts in Atlanta. Later he worked for Chipman Union in Union Point and was a Produce Manager at Channell’s Super Market in Greensboro. For nearly twenty years he was the Manager of inventory at Corner Pantry. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro and a member of San Marino Lodge No. 34. He is survived by his wife, Addie Mae Kemp Jackson of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Doris Jean Adriance and husband Burrell of Eatonton, GA; a son, John W. “Butch” Jackson and wife Hilda of Siloam, GA; two sisters, Pauline J. Channell of Greensboro, GA and Catherine J. “Kit” Villegas of Greensboro, GA; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruby Kimbrel Jackson and a great granddaughter, Brandy McKinley. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Johnny Barrett and Rev. Dwight Garrett officiating. Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Burrell Adriance Jr., Michael Adriance, Marty Dyess, Larry Meeks Jr., Kyle Adriance and Richard Swilley. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Michael Brown, Larry Meeks Sr. and members of San Marino Lodge #34. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home.
