John Richard Hurd of Greensboro, GA passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Piedmont Athens Regional with his wife and sister by his side. He was 65. John was born in 1956 in Salem, MA to Mary Hurd and the late John Richard Hurd. He earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Georgia State University. For several years, he was Chaplain at Hancock State Prison and worked for over 20 years for the state of Georgia as a DUI evaluator. More recently he had started his own ministry, Bridges to Christ (bridgestoChrist.com). His main goal in life was to help others break free of their addictions so that they could have more productive lives as they followed Christ. In 2015, he married the former Patricia Lynn Murray. After his marriage, he moved to Greene County from Bethlehem, GA and was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, Patricia Hurd of Greensboro, GA, survivors include his mother, Mary Hurd, who is 95 and lives in Loganville, GA; his siblings, Lynne Kelley (Jack) of Greenfield, MA, Paul Hurd of Loganville, GA, Tim Hurd (Yoon) of Honolulu, HI; Margaret West (Mick) of Atlanta, GA, and Matthew Hurd (Joy) of Loganville, GA; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews; and many friends. He is also survived by his beloved pets Rosie and Tug.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 11:00 a. m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Father Michael Silloway officiating; followed by a reception in the church’s Sacred Heart Social Hall.
