John Jeptha Cronan, Jr., 76, of Crawfordville, GA died Sunday, May 3, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, GA. Born in McDonough, GA, on July 24, 1943 he was one of eight children born to the late John Jeptha Cronan, Sr. and Truby Rutledge Cronan. Before retiring, he was the owner and operator of Cronan Grading. Throughout his life he enjoyed coon hunting and raising cows.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mildred Price. He is survived by two daughters, Kim Cronan Higdon (Doug) of Greensboro, GA and Wendy Cronan Elrod (Mark) of McDonough, GA; four grandchildren, J. D. Higdon, Laura Beth Higdon, Will Elrod and Marlee Elrod; four brothers, Charles Cronan, Gene Cronan, Bud Cronan and Joe Cronan; two sisters, Leann Abbott and Martha Cronan; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, 3400 Penfield Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating. Serving as pallbearers are J. D. Higdon, Will Elrod, Jimmy “Bubba” Smith, Charles Hall, Marc Richards and Mark Higdon. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his brothers: Charles Cronan, Gene Cronan, Bud Cronan, and Joe Cronan. The family requests that any memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice House, 1230 Baxter Street, Athens, GA 30606. The family will have a private visitation at the Funeral Home.
