Joel Lane Steele

Joel Lane Steele of the Bairdstown Community in Greene County passed away on April 24, 2020 at his residence with his family at the age of 88.  A lifelong resident of Bairdstown Joel was born on May 14, 1931 one of eight children of the late Coile Hampton Steele, Sr. and Blanche Florence Burkhalter Steele.  He attended school in Woodville and Union Point and proudly served his country in the United States Army.  As a carpenter he worked with Bobby Barnhart, G. L. Culver and retired after working with Robert Simpson.  He was a member of the Bairds Baptist Church. He spent much of his spare time hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed hunting arrowheads and old bottles with his brother Pope.

He was preceded in death by his son, Don Lane Steele; his siblings, Geneva Myrtis Huff, Blanche Louise Rhyne, Pope Steele, Leroy Steele, Robert Steele and Coile Steele. He is survived by a daughter, Lynn Taylor of the Bairdstown Community; son, Tracy Steele and his wife Leanne of the Bairdstown Community; sister, Shirley Steele of Union Point, GA; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services will be held Sunday, April 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Bairds Baptist Church Cemetery, 42 Bairdstown Loop, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Danny Holdredge officiating. The family will hold a private visitation at Callaway Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Booth, Gill Wray, Tim Wray, Will Wray, T. J. Wray and Jeff Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Beard, Johnny Kell, Michael Kell and Eddie Sloan.
