Joel Davis Huff

Joel Davis Huff, age 91, of the Bairdstown Community, died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point, GA. Born in Oglethorpe County on October 25, 1917, he was the son of the late James Richard Huff and Martha Susan "Mattie" Carter Huff. He grew up and attended school in Oglethorpe County. His working career started at Chipman Union in Union Point as a presser. He married the former Geneva Steele and they lived in Gainesville for twenty-five years, where he worked as a poultry farmer with Bruce and Wilson Company. They later lived in Florida and he worked in the groves and packing houses. Mr. Huff was a member of Bairds Baptist Church in Bairdstown.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Geneva Steele Huff of the Bairdstown Community; a son, George David Huff of the Bairdstown Community; a sister, Sue Johnson of McDowell, GA; a brother, Harold Huff of Bonaire, GA; three grandchildren, Kimberly and Allen James of Charleston, SC, Angela Huff of Wisconsin and Alan Huff of Bairdstown; one great grandchild; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three siblings.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Bairds Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Daniel Holdredge officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until time for the service on Tuesday at Callaway Funeral Home. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
