Joe Edward Reynolds, Sr. died on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at the age of 80. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on January 25, 1931 to the late William Perry Reynolds and Ruth Nash Reynolds. He graduated from Richmond Academy in 1949 and Augusta College. He later graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in Business and Communications. He was a United States Navy Corpsman attached to the First Marine Division during the Korean War in the Enchon Invasion and received the purple heart. He married the former Jeanne Damren on August 5, 1955. He started his career at the Augusta Chronicle and worked there for fifteen years. For the next twenty-eight years he was an Account Executive at the Atlanta Journal Constitution retiring in December of 1992. In 2000 they moved from Marietta to Lake Oconee, where he was a member of Walker United Methodist Church.

During his earlier years he refereed high school and college basketball and football for twenty-eight years. He was also a very active member of Lions International for fifty-six years and served as a former district governor. In addition, Joe was very patriotic and enjoyed all military affairs. He was an ardent sports fan and especially enjoyed the Georgia Bulldogs.

Joe is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Jeanne Damren Reynolds of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Julie Reynolds Mayran and husband Larry of Dacula, GA; a son, Joe Reynolds, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Loganville, GA; two grandsons, Jonathan Reynolds Mayran enrolled as a senior at the University of Georgia and Joseph Reynolds III enrolled as a Junior at Georgia Tech; two sisters, Willie Mae Faulkner and husband Irvine of Augusta, GA and Ann Maxwell and husband Bill of Augusta, GA; sister-in-law, Sarah Reynolds of Waynesboro, GA as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Russell. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Reynolds and William Reynolds.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. John Pike officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at McCommons Funeral Home.
