Joe Alexander Obituary

Joe Marshall Alexander, 50, a lifelong resident of the Swords Community in Morgan County died Thursday, October 10, 2002 at his home. Born on March 29, 1952, he was the son of the late Wayne Sylvester Alexander and Audrey Alexander of Buckhead, Georgia. He graduated from Morgan County High School in 1971 and from the Northeast Georgia Police Academy in 1988. Joe dedicated his life to the service and protection of the communities he served. His distinguished police career began at the City of Madison Police Department for 2 years, 1 year with the City of Monticello Police Department, 1 1/2 years with the Greene County Police Department, 1 1/2 years with the Greene County Sheriff''s Department, and finally 9 years with the City of Greensboro Police Department.

He is survived by his wife Pamela Gail Sims Alexander of the Swords Community; his mother, Audrey Alexander of Buckhead, Georgia; a sister, Lola Gibson and husband George of Greensboro, Georgia; a brother Charles Wayne Alexander and wife Carmen of Buckhead, Georgia; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother John Loring Alexander.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, October 13, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro Family Life Center with Rev. Kenneth Walker and Rev. Macrae Olinger officiating. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are all members of Law Enforcement and the following friends: Pat Patterson, Claude Alford, John Cooper, Michael Sims, Steve Sims, Ernie Thrasher, Andy Wheat, Gary Jones, Ray Buice, Charles "Snip" White and Jimmy Alexander. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Suite B-2, Athens, GA 30605 or to the Public Safety Memorial Fund in Memory of Joe Marshall Alexander, Georgia Public Safety Training Center, c/o Directors Office, 1000 Indian Springs Drive, Forsyth, Georgia 31029. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday night at the Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
