Barbara Joan East Moncrief of Crawfordville, Georgia passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at her residence. Moving from White Plains, she had lived in Crawfordville, GA for the last sixty-three years. A native of Greene County, she was born April 3, 1938 the daughter of Charles Asbury East, Jr. and Roberta Lipscomb East. She graduated from Greensboro High School, received her B. S. Degree in Middle Grade Education from North Georgia College and furthered her education by acquiring numerous courses at the graduate level at Georgia College and the University of Georgia. She married Carson Moncrief on June 28, 1959 at the White Plains Baptist Church. They had been married for fifty years at the time of his death in 2009. For over forty years she taught in both Oglethorpe and Taliaferro County School Systems. For twenty of these years she was principal of the Crawfordville Baptist Church School. While employed in the Taliaferro County Schools she taught third through sixth grade and in 1992 was selected as Teacher of the Year. She also participated in many staff developmental courses and workshops serving as Director of Drug-Free Schools for the 1992-93 school year. As a member of the Crawfordville Baptist Church, she taught an adult Sunday School Class, served as the pianist, sang in the choir, and served as president of the Wanda Holden Missionary Circle. She was also the WMU Director, church historian and headed the Prayer Team.

She was very dedicated and devoted to her work. Her philosophy was good values, hard work and positive thinking would make a difference in both work and life.  She continuously sought ways to motivate her students to achieve the type of education they would need in the future. She retired from teaching in 2001.
