Jerry Dunn Obituary

Jerry Millard Dunn, a resident of Greensboro, GA, for 28 years after residing in Stone Mountain and Jacksonville, FL, died Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, GA. He was 85. He was born February 2, 1938, in Biscoe, NC, to the late Johnnie Millard Dunn and Radie Brown Dunn. Jerry grew up in Biscoe and graduated from Biscoe High School before joining the United States Army at the age of 17. He was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, serving throughout Europe and peacetime Germany. He was very proud of his service to his country.

On December 12, 1958, he married the former June Marie Frye after a blind date at the North Carolina State Fair and three months of courtship. The two were happily married for almost sixty-five years.

After his honorable discharge from the US Army, most of Jerry's career was spent as a Manufacturer's Representative in the lighting industry. He went on to partner with his good friend Bob Parker to start their own business, Dunn and Parker and Associates, and also cofound Springfield Lighting & Supply. He retired in 2000.

Jerry was extremely talented as a woodworker and artist; his lifelike bird carvings are treasured among his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, flying, hunting, traveling, photography, fishing, playing the guitar, and drawing. He was a lifelong learner, continuing his education at Guilford College, earning his pilot's license, and avidly reading books of many genres.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie; his mother, Radie; his brother, Gregory Dunn; and his sister, Anne Dunn Maness. He is survived by his wife, June of Greensboro; his daughter, Kelly Dunn Wilson of Loganville; his granddaughter, Sarah Katy Wilson of Atlanta; his brother, Robert Dunn of Liberty, NC; his niece, Debby Maness of Pleasant Garden, NC; his nephews, Randy Maness of Greensboro, NC, and Chuck LaBounty of VA; and several cousins in North Carolina.

Jerry was beloved by his family and respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

The family will have a celebration of his life at a later time in North Carolina. To sign the online guest register, visit www.mccommonsfuneralhome.com, McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626.
