On the evening of March 15, 2023, Jean Gunn “Mama Jean” Dolvin passed away peacefully with her children by her bed at Piedmont Athens Regional in Athens, GA. Jean was 74. Born November 7, 1948 in Robinson, GA, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lee Gunn and Annie Lora Young Gunn. In 1966 she graduated from Greene County High School. Her working career began at Thomas Textile in Union Point, then she worked for The Clothes Closet in Greensboro and finally Sunrise in Greensboro. Because of her disability she began the job she loved the most taking care of and sitting with the elderly. As a caretaker her patients loved her as much as she loved them and only recently she had to give this up. Jean was a member of Celebration Baptist Ministries in Greensboro. She was passionate about gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Jenny Hill and husband Stephen of Rutledge, GA; her son, David Wilder and wife Angela of Crawfordville, GA; grandchildren, Savannah Hill, Rose Wilder, Carin Hill, Laney Hill, Raine Wilder, Anna Kate Hill, Reid Wilder and Aaliyah Wilder; sisters, Lillie Davis and husband James of Washington, GA and Joyce Walker (Don) of Jacksonville, FL; brother William “Bubba” Gunn and wife Joyce of Buckhead, GA; and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Davis.
