Mrs. Jane Chandler Rhodes of Siloam, GA passed away on October 19, 2025 at The Glen Lake Oconee. Jane was born on August 23, 1928 in Canton, GA to Boyd Wilkins Chandler and Mary Frank McClure Chandler. Her family relocated to Greensboro, GA when she was six years old, when her father started Chandler Drug Store in downtown Greensboro. She graduated from Greensboro High School as valedictorian of her class in 1945. After attending Wesleyan College in Macon, GA, she graduated in 1949 from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a proud member of Phi Mu sorority.
Jane married C.L. (Mutt) Rhodes, Jr., the love of her life, on October 20, 1950 and moved into their family home in Siloam, GA. She was a charter member of the Greene County Historical Society. She also volunteered with the Women’s Auxiliary “Pink Ladies” at Minnie G. Boswell Hospital, as well as with the Siloam Women’s Missionary Society. Her love of historic preservation led to many projects, including publishing the 150 year history of Siloam Baptist Church and listing the historic Siloam School building at Nathanael Greene Academy on the National Trust Registry of Historic Landmarks. She was instrumental in starting the Greene County History Museum. Later in life, she and Mutt were devoted members of Greensboro United Methodist Church, Jane’s childhood church in which they were married. She and Mutt were lifelong Georgia Bulldog fans and loved traveling to games together and hosting friends in their home. She was an avid reader, bridge player, gardener, knitter, and friend.
