James "Jimmy" Finch, Jr. Obituary

    James Edward “Jimmy” Finch, Jr. of Union Point, GA, died Monday, November 11, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was 79. A native of Greene County, GA, he was born in Greensboro on December 12, 1944, in a small frame house on the Penfield Road to the late Frances Arthur Finch and James Edward Finch, Sr. At the age of ten months, they moved to 306 West Street in Greensboro. Jimmy grew up in Greensboro and started school in 1950 and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1963. While in high school he played football, basketball and ran track. Growing up he was a Cub Scout Troop 222, played little league baseball, and pony league ball. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from July 25, 1963, to July 16, 1966, and took his basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC. During his service he was at Ft. Chaffee, Ark, Ft. Huachuca, Ariz, and Buren Germany. On June 23, 1964, he married the former Margaret Moore in Greensboro. In 1977 they moved to Union Point where they live at the present time. Jimmy served as a Clarke County deputy, Greene County deputy and was the Sheriff of Greene County from March 10, 1982, until December 31, 1992. He was the owner and operator of JEFCO Tax Services that he started in 1969 and continued to do taxes from his home until the present time. Caring for his family is what he loved the most. When he was able, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro serving as a deacon, also taught Sunday School and chaired several committees.
    In addition to his wife Margaret Finch of Union Point, GA, he is survived by his sons, Charles “Chuck” Finch of Union Point, GA and Samuel (Sam) Finch of Union Point, GA; daughters Elizabeth “Beth” Finch of Macon, GA and Sarah Fordham (Darian) of Bonaire, GA; sister, Jeannette Finch (Jack) of Jefferson, GA; grandchildren, Mary Margaret “Maggie” Finch of Kentucky, Brittany Lynn Finch of Athens, GA and Dalton Ryan Wingfield of Bonaire, GA; brother-in-law, Bill W. Moore of Union Point, GA and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Lynn Finch and grandchild, Charles Richard Finch, Jr.
    Funeral Services will be held, Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 203 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Michael Hardy and Rev. Mark Jones officiating. The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the church reception hall. Interment will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with full honors. Pallbearers will be Pam Brewer, Tracy English, Darrell Evans, Richard Campbell, Donnie Harrison, and Dave Heath. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the deputies of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Greensboro City Police along with Mark Higdon, Bob Voyles, Bobby Brook, Freddy Evans, Steve Miller, Matricia Strickland, J.
