James Monteath “Jim” Woodside of Greensboro, GA went home to be with his Lord on Friday February 17, 2023 at home with his wife, sister, family and his beloved Welsh Springer Spaniels Nobel and Molly by his side. Jim was born on July 12, 1942 to Nohanna O’Driscoll and James Monteath Woodside in Mayfair PA. Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA and was a vital part of the Lockheed-Georgia Company’s C=5A Program. Given the climate of the aeronautical industry at that time, Jim changed career paths and became founder and CEO of Delta Lighting Products in PA which is still in operation today.
Jim was an avid boater and deep-sea fisherman and was issued his captain’s license by the U.S. Coast Guard. His love of the ocean was the prompter of the move to Florida in his retirement years. As well he enjoyed scuba diving, collecting model trains and as Jim liked to say “playing at” golf. Jim did not do anything by small measures. Developing a design for a bracket for holding a game fishing reel, he was issued a United States Patent for his invention. He obtained his pilot’s license and as well as enjoying recreational flying, he volunteered his services and use of his plane and was an Angel Flight pilot, call signs N374JW and N375JW respectively, flying across the southeast United States. This, next to his children and grandchildren was what Jim was most proud of. The loss of his beloved Welsh Springer Spaniel and co-pilot Casey was the catalyst of the move to Georgia which allowed him to be nearer his daughter and grandchildren. Shortly after moving to Greensboro in 2011, he met his “best friend” Joyce Dove. They were married on March 22, 2016.
Jim is survived by his wife Joyce Woodside of Greensboro, GA, his son, Dennis Woodside (Laura) of Atherton, CA, his daughter Donna Baker (Matt) of Marietta, GA, his sister Margie Guyger (David) of Huntingdon Valley, PA, grandchildren Thomas Woodside, Elizabeth Woodside, Kate Baker and Loren Baker, his former partner, Richie Rudnet (Kim) who he regarded as a “second son”, a number of other relatives and many friends. Jim is predeceased in death by his sisters, Rita Farley and Eleanor Bernhardt and his dogs Casey and Buttons.
