Rev. James Amaziah "Jackie" Perkins, Jr., 74, of Evans, GA, formerly of Greensboro, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Piedmont Augusta Hospital. He was born on January 28, 1950, in Greensboro, GA, the son of the late James Amaziah "Jack" Perkins, Sr., and Martha Tuggle Perkins.
Jackie graduated from Greene County High School in 1968 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Southern. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1976 and a Doctorate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1994. While in college, Jackie toured the United States as the bass player in a Christian rock band called Jesus People (JP).
He cherished spending time with his family and enjoyed sports, the Beatles, playing guitar, making people laugh, and returning to his hometown of Greensboro. After seminary, Jackie dedicated 50 years to full-time pastoral ministry, retiring in January 2019. He was also an author.
On August 4, 1973, Jackie married LeAnne Cobia in Savannah, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, LeAnne Perkins of Evans, GA; his daughter, Erika Bible, and her husband, Jason, of Grovetown, GA; his sons, Todd Perkins, and his wife, Brooke, of Greenville, SC, and Ethan Perkins, and his wife, Brandy, of Greenville, SC; his sisters, Kathy Channell and her husband, Dene, of Greensboro, GA, and Jillyn Bradshaw and her husband, Wayne, of Athens, GA; and his ten grandchildren: Rivers, Caelan, Haleigh, Ryleigh, Kamber, London, Sylas, Judah, Sawyer, and Loxley.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Warren Baptist Church, 323 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30907, with Pastor Todd Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends at Warren Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Julian Hutchins, Dene Channell, David Cobia, Jason Bible, Todd Perkins, and Ethan Perkins. Dennis Cook will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery, 2830 Highway 15 South, Greensboro, GA. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
