James A. “Jim” Bay of Greensboro, GA passed away April 1, 2021 at St. Mary’s at the age of 89. He was born on August 3, 1931 and was the son of Ann Hollums Bay and Andrew Bay. He grew up in East Point, GA and Washington DC., and attended Georgia State University.
He had a long and successful career in the garment industry and worked for the Nunnaly McCrea company, starting in the warehouse and ending as sales manager. He went on to work for H. Mendelin and the Leslie J. Steel company. He later founded Drifter Sportswear, Inc. and BaySport, Inc. and owned sewing factories in Greensboro and Siloam, Ga. For many years these companies produced apparel for some of the largest retailers in the US.
Jim and his wife Linda Alford Bay were early residents of Lake Oconee. They moved from Atlanta to the area in the late 1970s and currently reside at Reynolds. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, boater and sports enthusiast and also owned residences in Daytona and Ponce Inlet, FL. He enjoyed his many friends and life at Lake Oconee, and always had a special place in his heart for his and his wife’s Mini Pinscher, Mickey Bay.
He is survived by his wife Linda, son James “Al” Bay, Jr. of Miami Shores, FL, sister-in-law Joyce Wright of Talladega, AL, niece Penny McKinney and her family, husband Jamie and children John, Mason and Morgan of Alpine, AL.
Jim will be cremated and a memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
