James Marren Obituary

James Joseph Marren, age 85, of Greensboro, GA died Sunday, May 23, 2021 at The Glen at Lake Oconee Village in Greensboro.  Born in Chicago, IL on April 24, 1936, he was the son of the late Michael Marren and Delia Scahill Marren.

James graduated from Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, IL and the University of Illinois where he received his Bachelor’s Degree.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge.  On August 27, 1960 he married the former Patricia Ann Murphy and they recently celebrated their sixtieth anniversary. After he married he worked for First Union in Jacksonville, FL retiring in 2001 as a certified financial planner.  Since August of 2020 they have lived in Greensboro, GA moving from Danville, VA to be close to their family.  He was a member of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, GA, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.  He love to  work crossword puzzles and read.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Patricia Marren of Greensboro, GA; three children: James Patrick Marren and his wife Kara of Greensboro, GA, Jeanne Egan and her husband Dr. Mike Egan of Villanova, PA and Mary Beth Johns and her husband Ed of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren: Patrick Johns, Connor Johns, Meghan Johns, Erin Johns, Fitzpatrick Marren, Luke Egan and Bridgett Egan; and a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Michael Marren and Mary Weiss. 

The family will hold a celebration of his life on May 31, 2021.  In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorials be made to the charity of your choice.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
