James Daniel “Dan” Hardy, age 67, of Greensboro, died Monday, December 1, 2008 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Washington, Georgia on April 13, 1941, he was the son of the late Cecil Emmett and Jane Elizabeth Combs Hardy. Dan attended Washington Wilkes High School and later earned his GED. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Rayle, Georgia and attended Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point, Georgia. He was a Master Mechanic at Chipman-Union for over twenty years and was a Water Plant Operator for the City of Union Point until he retired in 2007. Dan served his country in the United States Army. He loved his family and friends, football and baseball.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Collins; and one brother, Carol Hardy; He is survived by his wife, Dolores Hardy of Greensboro; two daughters Cindy Moore and husband Larry of Greensboro and Kimberly Hardy of Athens; one sister, Frances Ogletree and husband David of Washington, Georgia; two brothers, Cecil Hardy and wife Frances of Stockbridge, Georgia and Marion Hardy (Pete) and wife Laverne of Lincolnton, Georgia; sister- in-law, Gloria Hardy; brother-in-law, Joe Collins; and one grandson, Lucas Moore of Greensboro; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point with Rev. Colin Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Randy Ogletree, Michael Hardy, Everett Hardy, Benji McAvoy, Joseph Brooks, and Michael Bryant. Honorary pallbearers are: John Osborne, Pete Poss and Wayne Poss.
