James E. Eick, 76, of Greensboro, GA, died on May 11, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens due to complications from neck surgery.
Jim Eick was born in Roselle Park, N.J. on August 7, 1937. He attended Roselle Park High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He married his high school sweetheart Marie A. Lupo on September 12, 1959. Jim worked at Royal Globe Insurance Company for 38 years, first in New York City and then in Charlotte, N.C., where he rose from mail room clerk to Executive Vice President of IT before retiring to Lake Oconee in 1997. Professional accomplishments aside, Jim cherished his wife and family above all else. Despite commuting for hours to work by train from his home in Basking Ridge, N.J. Jim was always there to support his sons. And he made sure that his sons had the opportunity to attend college, an opportunity that he never had himself. Jim was especially proud of his two grandchildren J.C., a recent graduate of Georgia Tech and Sarah, who will be graduating from the University of Alabama in December.
Jim's retirement dreams were cut short by the death of his beloved wife Marie in 2005. In recent years you could likely spot Jim driving around town accompanied by his golden retriever Rowdy.
Devoted husband, father, and grandfather Jim Eick is survived by his sister Joyce Eick, his son Randolph, and his son James, daughter-in-law Tracey and grandchildren J.C. and Sarah.
Per his final wishes, a private family viewing will be held at McCommons Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2014. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements. Visit us at www.mccommonsfuneralhome.com to sign the online guest register.
