James Roy Burke

James Roy Burke of Corbin, KY was born in Greensboro, GA on February 12, 1980.  He died November 06, 2022 at 3:00pm at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, KY while watching his church’s service via Facebook livestream.  He was 42 years old. 

James was a loving brother to all his siblings, and best buddy to his older brother Benji.  They’d spend hours on the phone chatting, keeping each other company, and looking out for one another through hard times.  He was also close to his mother, Ruth Thurmond, who preceded him in death on September 12, 2022.

James was a gentle soul who loved all things tech.  He was always cracking jokes or pulling pranks, or other mischief.  James was a recent transplant to Kentucky.  He loved living there and he loved attending church.  He was a member of the Winds of Pentecost Ministries in Corbin, KY. , where he gave his life to the Lord.  Pastor Gilbert Valentine and the church members loved and cared for James in his final days.  They will surely miss him.  The church, and we all, are comforted in knowing that we will see James again in Glory someday.

In addition to his mother, James is preceded in death by his father, Roy Burke Jr, his paternal Grandparents, Roy Burke Sr and Mildred Burke, his maternal grandparents Pope and Bertha Thurmond, his Uncles Billy and Jimmy Thurmond and Aunts Judy Thurmond,  Geneva O’Neal and Sue Rayburn, his cousins Beth, Mandy, and Quentin Hewitt, nieces Jessica and Sapphire, and nephew Judah.  

He is survived by his Aunts Sonia Garner and Jane Epps, his four siblings, Robert, Richard, Benjamin, and April Burke, niece Katie Collier, Rhonda Hewitt, and other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family asks that donations be made in his name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Bowling Funeral Home at 1704 North Main St London, KY 40741 is in charge of James’s final arrangements.
