Jackie "Jack" Smith Obituary

Jackie (Jack) Smith, 80, of Greshamville, Georgia passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. He was born on September 27, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late James Earl Smith and Bertha Richardson Smith.  Jack grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Fulton High School. After graduation he became a member of a popular quartet.  Jack went to Woodrow Wilson Law School for three years. His working career varied from being a news reporter early on to a banker with C & S Bank to Riley, Park and Haden Engineering Company. After retirement Jack and Susan, wife of 44 years, devoted their time to their church, New Hope Baptist in Greshamville, Georgia. He sang bass in the choir and soloists on a regular basis.

A talented “wildlife” artist, Jack has a favorite painting, “The Lion and The Lamb” that he used as his signature piece… that he gave to many delightful friends.  Reminding and comforting them what “John Saw”, as his personal ministry.  He loved his family and his church family. His cats: Chip and Dale and Izzy gave him and Susan such joy.

Preceding Jack in death are his parents, daughters, Rhonda Smith and Vannah Smith, and sister, Margie Smith Cunningham (Leon).  Surviving family members are his wife, Susan Kirby Smith; nephews, Rory Cunningham (Nancy), Gary Cunningham, Terry Cunningham (Nancy); and many “great” nieces and nephews.
