Jack Durshimer Obituary

Jack Cole “Dutch” Durshimer, age 86, of Greensboro, GA passed away at his home on July 1, 2007. He was born in Manasota, Florida on June 2, 1921, the son of the late Norman and Margie Durshimer of Albany, GA. He graduated from Albany High School in 1942 where he played football. He served aboard the U.S.S. Alabama in the Pacific and Caribbean from the time she was commissioned in Norfolk, VA during World War II. He was a master saw filer who worked in the lumber business most of his life in Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina. He worked many years at Greensboro Lumber Company, and since retirement has owned and operated B & J Band Saw Shop traveling and working in several states. In the last two years he has been a bailiff at the courthouse in Greene County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro. Jack never met a stranger, and his philosophy of life was “if you can’t have fun don’t go”, which he lived to the fullest. He was always the life of the party and always had a joke and a big smile for everyone. He loved to fish, travel, and guess who was going to win a game. He loved his breakfast buddies and all their stories. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Camp Durshimer, formerly of Sylvester, GA; his daughters, Donna Rowlen of Roswell, GA and Debbie Preston and husband Ray of Macon, GA; grandchildren, Brantley Rowlen of Atlanta, GA, Amanda Rowlen of Woodstock, GA, Justin Jones of Colorado and Jessica Jones of Greensboro, GA. Other survivors include sisters, Patricia Hutchinson and husband Hutch of Longview, TX and Norma “Pocket” Patterson and husband Pat of Monroe, GA; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, July 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Greensboro with Rev. Richard Chewning officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Cotton Boswell, Bobby Boswell, Francis Rizner, Charles Crumbley and L. Y. Kenimer. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 202 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 or the charity of your choice. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
