Hugh Clyde Brown of Siloam, GA passed away on July 1, 2023 after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born on November 24, 1939 to the late Chalmers Lee “Babe” Brown and Alpha Greeson Brown of Greshamville. He graduated from Greensboro High School in the class of 1958 and was a key member of the Tigers 1956 Region championship football team. After high school, Clyde served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, driving or hitchhiking home on the weekends to see his future wife. He married the love of his life, Jo Ellen Parker, on July 21, 1961. Clyde was a long time employee at Universal Rundle in Union Point and later painted houses, cleaned chimneys, and sold wood heaters.
Clyde was very active all his life and had the ability to fix anything. He was once an avid runner and when he turned 70 years old, he rode every road in Greene County on a bicycle. He started racing dirt bikes in the early 1970s and continued to race until he was nearly 80, winning many championships.
He enjoyed many cross country rides on his Honda Goldwing with his wife Jo, venturing to places like the Grand Canyon, Tombstone Arizona, and Yellowstone National Park.
Clyde was a member of Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church. He and his wife were big supporters of Nathanael Greene Academy where they spent much of their time attending their children’s and grandchildren’s academic and sports activities.
His many interests included riding and racing motorcycles, tinkering on anything mechanical, woodworking and building furniture, and traveling with his wife.
Clyde was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed being Pop Pop to his grandchildren. He is survived by three sons, Tim Brown of Greensboro, GA; Greg Brown (Anjie) of White Plains, GA and David Brown (Jennifer) of Buckhead, GA; six grandchildren, Jake Brown, Jessie Brown, Adam Brown, Christopher Brown, Sean Brown and Bonnie Brown; two great grandchildren, Jace Lawson and Haydyn Lawson; brother, Ottie Brown (Sue); and a number of other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo Ellen Brown, and brothers C.L. Brown and Joe Brown.
