Hoke Thomas, Sr Obituary

Hoke Smith Thomas, Sr., age 92, of Conyers, Georgia, died Monday, July 25, 2005 at Newton Medical Center in Covington, GA. Born in Greene County on June 13, 1913 he was the son of the late Paul Harderman Thomas and Della Center Thomas Collins. As a child he attended school in Greshamville and graduated from Greensboro High School. During World War II he served in the United States Merchant Marines and the Army Transport Command where he saw action in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. For twenty years he was a tire salesman with Gordy Tire Company in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Thomas was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville and San Marino Lodge #34 in Greensboro where he received his 50 year pin.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Thomas Collins and husband Robby of Covington, GA; three sons, Hoke Thomas Jr. and wife Gwin of Covington, GA, Charles Thomas and wife Floretta of Charlotte, NC and Mike Thomas of Covington, GA; two sisters, Virginia Linnville of Pensacola, FL and Margarett Hughes of Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren, Donald Cloudt, Shane Cloudt, David Thomas, Tommy Thomas, Joel Thomas, Eddie Thomas, Mark Thomas and Jeff Thomas; ten great grandchildren, Savannah Cloudt, Isabelle Cloudt, Rylan Cloudt, Austin Thomas, Hunter Thomas, Carly Thomas, Drake Thomas, Makayla Thomas, Camille Bash and Mitchell Thomas; and a host of other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Booth.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow at Greshamville Cemetery with military honors. Serving as pallbearers are Donald Cloudt, Shane Cloudt, Tommy Thomas, David Thomas, Robby Collins and Donald Dennis. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
