Herbert Spencer “Gator” Scarborough of White Plains, GA, died Monday, January 3, 2022 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA. Son of the late Hoke Smith Scarborough and Sarah Frances Graham Scarborough, he was born on December 13, 1936 in Dublin, GA. In 1955 he graduated from Belle Glade High School, and, on June 18, 1956, he married the former Jane Gail Sasser in Belle Glade, FL. His working career began at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA where he worked for 37 years and retired as an Aircraft and Engineer Technician Supervisor in 1992. After retirement they moved into the home they built in Greene County on Lake Oconee, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska, as well as camping and many other outdoor adventures. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife Gail, he is survived by his son, Vernon Spencer Scarborough (Debbie) of Warner Robins, GA; daughter, Gwendolyn Gayle Wright (Keith) of Bonaire, GA. Gator is also survived by five sisters and five brothers. His surviving sisters are Sarah Saunders, Olivia Beauchain, Delia Rowland (Barrie), Paula Seeley (Stan) and Peggy Currington (Jack), and his surviving brothers are Kyle Scarborough, John Scarborough (Linda), Raymond Scarborough (Elaine), Matthew Scarborough (Debbi) and Al Scarborough (Karen). He also has two grandchildren, Wayne Wright (Katrina) and Daniel Scarborough, and two great grandchildren, Madison and Weston Wright. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will hold private services at a later date. Those serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Wright, Ray Foster, Robbie McNeill, Daniel Scarborough, Donald Wilson and Sidney Harden.
