Henry Phillips, Sr. Obituary

Henry Lee Phillips, Sr., age 71, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, October 3, 2020 at his residence. Born in Washington, GA on April 16, 1949, he was the son of the late Lurie Balcomb Phillips and Gordon Clarence Phillips. Henry attended school in Union Point through the ninth grade and graduated from Greene County High School in 1968 where he was a star basketball player. He also graduated from Reinhardt College and attended Berry College. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  He married Audrey Hazel Scott of Madison, GA on February 16, 1973. He was the Assistant Chief for the City of Greensboro and Clerk of the City Court.  Henry also served as one of the first volunteer responders for Greene County.  Henry particularly enjoyed the Christmas holiday season and cherished time spent with his family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by a son, Bonnie B. Bullock, Jr.; a daughter, Beth Bullock Garland; granddaughter, Ashley Victoria Garland; and siblings, Clarence Phillips, James Phillips, Elizabeth Phillips and Peggy Farmer. In addition to his wife, Hazel Phillips of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by his six children, Becky Manley and husband John of Greensboro, GA, Jenny Carmichael of Greensboro, GA, Bruce Bullock of Douglasville, GA, Pete Phillips of Greensboro, GA, Scott Phillips of Greensboro, GA and Laura Rodgers and husband Adam of Macon, GA; brother, Bill Phillips of Orlando, FL; sister Anna Phillips of Bethlehem, GA; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. 

Memorial Services will be held on October 8, 2020, at 3 pm at Grace Fellowship Church.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Henry’s memory can be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Boys Ranch at georgiasheriffsyouth.org, the Shriners Hospital for Children at shrinershospitalsforchildren.org or to the Rotary Club of Greensboro at greensbororotary.org for all of the wonderful work they did to make Henry’s home handicap accessible.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
