Henry Arvanites Obituary

Henry James “Hank” Arvanites, age 67 of Greensboro, GA died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Born in Suffern, New York on July 25, 1943, he was the son of the late James Arvanites and Edna Hoffman Arvanites. He was a graduate of Clarkstown Central High School in 1961 and the University of Georgia in 1965 with a BS in Chemistry. Hank was an entrepreneurial executive with twenty eight years of experience in high technology management positions. His career started as senior Scientist for Corporate Research and Development at St. Regis Paper Corporation from 1965 until 1972. He then became the Plant Manager over the Laminated and Coated Products Division from 1972 until 1981 and continued to move up the ladder as Director of Operations, Vice President and General Manager until 1986. He then joined Otis Specialty Papers as Vice President and General Manager and from there became Group Vice President for Rexam Inc. where he was responsible for papermaking businesses at Otis Specialty Papers, Chartham Paper Mill, Smith & McLaurin and businesses at Rexam Graphics, including European sites. He moved to Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee in 1997. Hank is survived by his wife, Geraldine “Geri” Arvanites of Greensboro, GA; three sons, Bob Arvanites and wife Laura of Spartanburg, SC, Bill Arvanites and wife Chris of Roswell, GA and Doug Arvanites and wife Angela of Salem, MA; two brothers, Thomas Arvanites and wife Janice of Sun City Center, FL and Michael Arvanites and wife Susan of Pearl River, NY; seven grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 202 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Richard Chewning officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made to Winship Cancer Center, Emory University Hospital, 1365 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30322-1013. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
