Henry Ames, Sr. Obituary

Henry Theodore Ames, Sr. died in Greensboro, Georgia under hospice care on Friday November 24 at the age of 103. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kathy Holman Ames.  Also surviving are three children from his first marriage to the late Margaret Daniel Ames, including Henry T. Ames, Jr. (Gloria), Richard Ames (Iris), and Judy Ames Bowman, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.  Henry was also a stepfather of two children.

Henry was born in Jersey City, NJ and spent most of his childhood in Harrington Park, NJ. He always loved baseball and became a star centerfielder at Dumont High School. He served honorably in the Army Air Corps in WW2 as a mechanic on B25 bombers. After the war he worked in sales at Republic Steel Company for many years in the Chrysler Building in New York City. He transferred to Atlanta in the 60s and became a steadfast Atlanta Braves fan who rarely missed a game. After retiring, he loved to travel, especially by train, visiting most of the U.S. and Europe on several occasions. He was also very creative with his woodworking skills for many years. Henry dedicated many hours of work to local schools where Kathy was teaching.

Known for his sense of humor, especially puns, Henry would unleash them at every opportunity and kept his wits and an addiction to ice cream and chocolate right to the end.
