Helen Ashley Obituary

Helen Josephine Chapman Ashley, age 98, of White Plains, GA died Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at High Shoals Health and Rehab in Bishop. Born on September 19, 1926, in Siloam, GA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clinton Chapman and Ollie Belle Mathews Chapman both of Siloam.  She was a graduate of Siloam High School and on July 27, 1956, she married Walker Lewis Ashley. Helen was a homemaker but always supported her husband Walker when he was Mayor of White Plains and on their farm. She was an excellent cook and loved gardening and music. Helen was a beloved aunt who loved her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews and they all loved her. When health permitted she was an active member of White Plains Methodist Church.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Lewis Ashley in July of 2003; two brothers, Robert Owen "Johnny" Chapman, Sr, and Edward Byron Chapman; and three sisters, Annie Lee Corry, Carolyn Capman Gentry and Hilda Chapman Marshall. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Chapman Webb of Greensboro, GA; nieces and nephews, Nancy Webb Jacobs (Bert), Wayne Corry, Richard Marshall (Marlene), Robbie Chapman (Mary Jim), Roger Webb (Deborah), and Jana Thompson (Tony), numerous great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Jay Beeland officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Bert Jacobs, Ethan Harkins, Justin Jacobs, Robbie Chapman, Richard Marshall, and Sam Webb. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Corry, Philip Harkins, Roger Webb and Tony Thompson. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
