Harry Eugene Bufford, Sr.

     Harry Eugene Bufford, Sr. of Greensboro, Georgia passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the age of 91.  Harry (known for many years as Gene) was born in Greensboro, GA on September 11, 1931, to the late Julius Fred Bufford and Hattie Ellen Bryan Bufford.  After graduating from Greensboro High School, Gene made a first career in the United States Air Force.  He married the former Nancy Sylvia Ellison on July 11, 1952.  His military career of twenty-three years moved him all over the United States: Minnesota, Michigan, California, Texas, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia and Guam. During his time in the Air Force, he served stateside during the Korean war and was stationed in the field at Cam Ranh Bay during the Vietnam war. 
    When he retired from the Air Force he moved to Athens, GA and started a second career with Louis T. Klauder Associates. While working with Klauder, he lived in Italy and Germany managing factories that built Metro transit trains cars for Washington, DC and Seattle, WA. In his second retirement, Harry and Nancy settled in Hilton Head South Carolina where he was able to spend much of his time playing golf, his favorite sport.
    His last move was back to his hometown of Greensboro to be closer to family and friends, where Harry was a faithful member of Walker United Methodist Church. He had a strong faith in God and enjoyed serving others with his time, meals, and anything they needed. He also supported many local charities and had a passion for veteran’s groups including those at Del Webb at Lake Oconee.
    Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Stainback (Frank); sons, Joel Bufford (Deborah), Harry Bufford, Jr., and Randy Bufford (Susan); nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and great friend Betty Kelly; many other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, Nancy Bufford, he was preceded in death by all his siblings, Mildred Agnes Burchardt, Kay Butler, Elizabeth Berg, and David Bufford.
    Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. David Collins officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons: David Bufford, Clinton Bufford, Jonathan Bufford, Tom Stainback, James Stainback and great grandsons, Hayden Bufford, and Elijah Middleton.  The family requests that any memorials be made in memory of Harry Eugene Bufford to Walker United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.
