Harold Richard Donerkiel

Harold Richard Donerkiel of Greensboro, GA died Saturday, August 29, 2020 at The Glen at Lake Oconee Village in Greensboro. A native of Lorain, OH, he was born September 3, 1939 the only child of Sol and Dorothy Mae Cantor Donerkiel. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1958 and studied chemistry and biology at Ohio State University for two years. After college he worked for Gypsum which made wallboard for homes. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. After leaving the Army, he began a successful career with Shell Oil Company in the Marketing Department in November of 1965 and remained with Shell until his retirement in 1991 as purchasing representative. On June 18, 1966 he married the former Karen Heighley whom he had met before he joined the Army.  She worked for Eastern Airlines and traveling was a big part of their lives.  Besides his interest in traveling, boating, water and snow skiing, taking care of the yard, playing cards, watching tv and going to movies, he enjoyed his miniature Dachshund family.  Over the years he had 6 miniature Dachshunds; Frankie, Peanut, Lit’l Bit, Brandy, Lit’l Bit II and Marlee.qqq.
 
Harold would tell anyone that he had been very fortunate and blessed to have had a happy childhood, loving parents, a loving wife, daughter, son-in-law and three adorable grandchildren. Also he had his six loving puppies and four adorable, loving grandpuppies.
 
Survivors include his wife of  fifty-four years, Karen Donerkiel of Greensboro, GA; daughter, Lise Anne and her husband Chris of Greensboro, GA; three fantastic grandchildren: Ashleigh Nicole, Madison Christine and Ryan Christopher.
 
Private Family Services will be held Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 10:00 AM at McCommons Chapel followed by interment at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, Ga.  The family requests memorials be made to American Parkinson Disease Association - Georgia Chapter, P.O.
