Gregory "Greg" Michael Murphy

Gregory Michael "Greg" Murphy, age 75, of Greensboro, GA, passed away peacefully at his home on January 14, 2023.  He was born in Staten Island, NY, on October 19th, 1947, to the late Howard and Marie Murphy.  He graduated from Ralph McKee Vocational High School located in Staten Island, New York. Greg married the late Cathy Murphy on December 31, 1976, and renewed their vows on July 8th, 2012.  They moved to Greensboro in 1978. He had to retire from his business, Vision's Auto Restoration, due to health issues.

"Poppy" loved his family and always enjoyed trips to the beach with them. He enjoyed making model cars in his younger years. He has always been an avid reader.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Cathy Murphy and an infant daughter, Maureen.  Together, they shared 5 children. Greg (Susan) Murphy, Danny (Kelly) Murphy, Cathy (Randy) Lawson, Cliff Murphy, and Kelly Murphy. In addition to his children, he is survived by a brother, Howard Murphy of NY, and a sister, Helen Kelly of NJ. His grandchildren include Ryan, Cole, Taylor, Katelyn, Kelsey, Alana, Shelby, Luke, Noah, Beth, and Genna. His great grands were Kyrie, Colter, Aiden, and Emma. 

When his beloved wife passed away, he decided he wanted to get a dog. Little did we know that Bailey would steal all of our hearts and be such a blessing and comfort in his last months.
Greg and Cathy are together in God's Kingdom, and their family takes comfort in knowing this.

A Celebration of Greg’s life will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Tim Tabler officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
