Gloria Godbee Powell

Gloria Mary Godbee Powell, age 85, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at St. Mary''s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA. She was born in Crawfordville, GA on May 1, 1927, the daughter of the late Lloyd Watson Godbee, Sr. and Mary Margaret McReynolds. She graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute in Crawfordville and later moved to Jonesboro, where she worked for Arrow Shirt Company as a secretary. She also worked in insurance billing at South Fulton Hospital and later returned to Union Point where she has lived since 1980. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening and growing tomatoes. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nelson "Red" Powell in 1998; sister, Thelma Godbee Leach; brother, Lloyd Watson Godbee, Jr.; niece, Beth Godbee; and nephew, Douglas Godbee. She is survived by a sister, Delores Godbee Wilson of Greensboro, GA; nieces, Anne L. Johnson, Dollie L. Eley, Cheryl L. Dolvin, Lisa West and Glenda Isbella; nephews, Lynn Leach and Donald Godbee; great nieces and nephews; Jim, Heath, Hollie, Crystal, Ginger, Bubba and Brittany; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Dolvin, Jamie Eley, Niles Webb, Delmus Powell, Cecil Powell and Samuel Stewart Johnson, Jr. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.
