Gloria Ann Cain Hughes

Gloria Ann Cain Hughes of Greensboro, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at her home at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, GA from ALS (Lou Gehrig''s Disease). She was 73.

Gloria will be missed by her husband of 53 years, Tom Hughes of Greensboro, GA; her mother, Lena Helms Cain of Geneva, AL; her sisters, Linda and Dave Shelby of Senoia, AL; Betty and Jim Gilmore of Moon Township, PA; sister-in-law Mary Cain; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends and golfing buddies.

She was preceded in death by her father, Farrell Cain; two brothers, James Cain and George Cain; and also her very special grandmother, Martha Byrd Cain.

Born in Geneva, AL, she graduated from Geneva High School in 1956 and attended the Atlanta Art Institute. Gloria was an avid and very accomplished golfer who won 11 championships from California to Lake Oconee, Georgia. Gloria was a wonderful cook and hostess, and took great care of family and friends. She had lived in Greensboro for the last 20 years moving here from California.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA 31024, with Rev. Alec Ward officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church. On Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. a Funeral Service will be held in Geneva, AL at Maple Avenue Baptist Church, 1009 W. Maple Avenue, Geneva, AL 36340. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Highway 52, Geneva, AL 36340.
